Currently the big challenge in fiber optics communication in Data Centres is migration from multimode fiber (MMF) transmission, which is limited to about 50 meters reach, to single mode fiber (SMF) transmission, which can reach transmission length of 10+ km. The goal of the project is to demonstrate and fabricate long wavelength single mode wafer-fused VCSELs , which can be modulated at high speed and fabricated at a considerably lower cost. Vigo’s task is the development of high quality InP-based strained MQWs for O- and C- bands. The project will set the foundation for large scale industrial production of long wavelength VCSELs.
The Project is co-funded by the National Center for Research and Development under the 7th Polish-Israeli competition.
